Spiritual Aspects Of Treatment

?Belief in treatment :

One day a man visited the holy prophet and asked him for a remedy for his brother who was suffering from diarrhea.

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) told him to give his brother honey.

He did that and his brother’s diarrhea got worse!

He visited the holy prophet again and told him that honey made him feel worse.

The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) said:
صدق الله و کذب بطن اخیک. اسقیه عسلا
“Allah says the truth and your brother’s tummy is lying. Go and give him honey.”

He went back and fed his brother more honey. This time his brother got cured.

Note: In the time of Holy Prophet it was believed that honey is a laxative.
Therefore, believing that honey is a laxative and won’t cure him made it ineffective the first time.
The level of belief we have in our medication, our health and our food can make us sick or healthy.

Having belief in Islamic medicine and the words of Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) is an essential element of treatment.

✔️Beneficial Diseases

According to Islamic medicine there are some diseases that are beneficial and they are not supposed to be treated since they are a protection from more dangerous diseases.

?The Holy Prophet (pbuh):
Do not feel bad about 4 things as they are (beneficial) for 4 things:

? Do not feel bad about getting a cold as it is the protection from leprosy (and other genetic diseases).
? And do not feel bad about getting blisters and pimples as they are a protection from vitiligo.
? And do not feel bad about swollen eyes as this is the protection from becoming blind.
? And do not feel bad about coughing as it is the protection from paralysis (and strokes).

Note:
Trying to treat the mentioned diseases can be harmful for the body. The Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) used to become happy when someone in their family was afflicted by any of these diseases because they knew they were beneficial.
People taking medication for their coughs these days is a reason why strokes have increased. Coughing that is caused by a heart disorder should not be cured whilst coughs caused by weak lungs should be cured.

?Are Painkillers Recommended In Islamic Medicine?

“It is quoted that Ibn Abi Yafour referred to Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s.) saying that he gets stomach aches and when he drinks a sip of raisin wine his pain goes.
Imam told him not to drink wine.
He went back from Medina to Kufa and he got stomach ache again. His family offered him some wine and when his pain increased, he drank some and his pain settled.
He went to Imam again and told him the story.
Imam replied: “O’ Ibn Abi Yafoor, stop it, that is Haraam. Your pain is caused by Shaytan (microbes or bacteria) which is disturbing you. If it disappoints it shall go.”
When he went back to Kufa, his pain started even more sever. His family offered him wine but he sworn not to touch it.
He tolerated the pain for a few days and he got cured and he never got the pain again till the end of his life.”

?Ayatullah Tabrizian:
Those who are used to painkillers should note that if beside treating themselves they are patient over pains that is better for them.
